Bicycling trip in Agumbe

Bicycling trip in Agumbe

An organized bicycling trip in Agumbe. Very first bicycling trip outside my comfort zone and city of residence.

Came about a bicycling trip to be conducted and organised by a small group of cycling enthusiasts. This bicycling trip was to held over 2 days in the weekend of 14th & 15th of May 2011. The route planned was around the high altitude village of Agumbe. Climb Kundadri Hill top and end near Bhadra Dam. Enlisted with no clue what was in store in terms of difficulty and experience for this was my very first bicycling trip outside my comfort zone and outside my city of residence - Bengaluru. How exciting!!

Day 01 : Agumbe – Kundadri Hill – Koppa

Sat, 14 May 2011

The ride starts from Agumbe and enroute to Koppa, we climb up the Kundadri Hill which had breathtaking views and a Jain temple on the top. The climb is only 5 Kms, but was very very challenging. By lunch time we reach Koppa, a small town at a slightly higher elevation with beautiful views around. Post lunch was a ride to a nearby tea plantation which was fun and relaxing as we return from there in the evening.

Agumbe - A high-altitude village in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka. Surrounded by the Western Ghats mountains and lush rain forest.

Kundadri Hill - Beautiful view point at it's hill top. Situated about 16 km North East from the village of Agumbe.

Distance covered for today : 60 km

Day 02 : Koppa – Bhadra Reservoir – Lakkavalli

Sun, 15 May 2011

The ride starts from Koppa with an early morning beautiful view as we ride downhill to NR Pura and further on towards Umbalabailu and Kuvempu University to reach BRP (Bhadra Reservoir Project) and Lakkavalli. A wonderful view of the DAM from this place.

Bhadra Reservoir - Bhadra Reservoir Project (BRP) is located on the Bhadra River, a tributary of Tungabhadra River. Bhadra dam is located in the border of Bhadravathi and Tarikere, in the western part of Karnataka in India.

Distance covered for today : 70 km

A very first bicycling trip outside of my comfort zone and city of residence - Bengaluru. The hot climate with the sun overhead for most of the day made this trip got me very dehydrated and tired for a first bicycling trip. Very thrilled for my first bicycling trip nevertheless.
